What is a glimmer?

Glimmer moments are small, joyful, and meaningful experiences that can brighten our day.

They are not necessarily the big moments - not the overseas holidays, weddings, or new babies being born.

Rather, they are the moment we feel the sun on our face after a harsh rain storm, the perfect cup of coffee in the morning, or the smile you share with a stranger on your work commute.

Think of glimmer moments as a place where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary, and the mundane becomes infused with magic.

How can we use glimmers in business?

I recently started embracing glimmers in my life, and it has helped lift my mood more than you might think.

After a particularly stressful few years on a personal level, my mental health was suffering.

I seemed to always feel anxious, my sleep was not good, I lost motivation for some days at a time, and I was feeling sad that life seemed to be passing me by, without me truly LIVING my life.

Thankfully, my business was going strong, but I had lost some of my passion for it that's for sure.

Now I am embracing the glimmers in daily life, it has helped to shift my focus and my mindset.

What are my favourite glimmers?

I really love the first cup of tea I have in the mornings, either in bed or in the kitchen as I contemplate the day, while everyone is still sleeping.

I've always loved mornings: the freshness of the air, the promise of the day ahead...

But now I was actively enjoying these precious few minutes, and feeling thankful

Another glimmer for me might be staying dry while out on a walk or during Park Run. But if it does rain, I see the fun in that too.

And, I can't talk glimmers without mentioning our cute dog, Barney... the way he snuggles in for a cuddle at the end of the day, the way he chases the ball at the park.

Of course, my children are also sources of glimmers (sure, a lot of stress too!). But if I take a moment to stop and see the world through their eyes, there is a lot to embrace.

I often make a hug with my kids, or with a friend, last just a beat longer... and I can feel my happiness cup filling.

Glimmers can also be mundane, such as finding the last parking spot, or they can be more personal and emotional - unique to you and your life.

Don't just take my word for it...

So, actually, there is a scientific reason why glimmers are good for us.

Experiencing a glimmer activates the body's ventral vagal network, also known as the social engagement system, which is a part of the nervous system that helps us feel relaxed, grounded, safe, and like we belong.

And, these positive vibes can last long after the glimmer has passed.

Ready to discover your glimmers?

In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to overlook the glimmer moments that add depth and richness to our existence.

However, by cultivating awareness, embracing gratitude, finding beauty in imperfections, seeking adventure, and nurturing connections, we can uncover these precious gems and infuse our lives with joy and fulfillment.
