As a writer, How Do I Use AI in My Work? (and Why It Enhances, Not Replaces, Human Writing)

There’s a lot of conversation happening around AI in the copywriting world - and in the administrative work area. How is it used? Does it replace writers? And what does it mean for authenticity and quality?
So I want to be completely transparent about how I use AI in my work, and more importantly, how I don’t use it.
Writing in the age of AI
I regularly support clients with blog writing, social media content, email newsletters, and general admin. AI plays a role in that work, but it does not replace my voice, my judgement, or the nuance that comes from all my experience. And AI certainly does not produce unedited chunks of text that I simply hand over.
Instead, I treat AI the same way you might treat spell check, Grammarly, or any other digital tool: as an assistant, not an author.

AI as a Tool, Not a Shortcut
AI helps me work smarter, not faster-for-the-sake-of-it. I use it in specific, purposeful ways that enhance the quality of the final product without compromising originality or accuracy.
Here are the main ways AI supports my workflow:
1. Idea Generation
Sometimes AI helps me brainstorm themes, angles, or content ideas: it’s a starting point, not a finished product.
2. Structuring and Subheadings
If I have a topic but need to explore different ways to organise it, AI can help offer possible structures or subheadings. From there, I refine, adjust, rewrite, and build the full piece with my own experience and style.
3. Editing and Polishing
After I’ve written a draft, I sometimes use AI to help check clarity, flow, or grammar. This is useful, but guided entirely by me, the writer.
What AI Doesn’t Do in My Business
AI is not used just to be lazy!
It does not replace my writing.
It does not determine the tone or message.
It does not produce unchecked content for clients.
It does not assume to understand your business, your audience, your voice, or your goals - I do!
Everything I create is tailored specifically to the client’s brand, industry, and personality. AI can’t replicate that. It’s simply one tool that helps refine the process.
Why I Choose to Use AI at All
Just like spell check made writing easier decades ago, AI is simply the next evolution of tools that help professionals produce high-quality work.
And ultimately, my goal is always the same: to deliver the best content possible for my clients.
